SPRING: THE WOOD ELEMENT

Chinese Medicine pays close attention to the seasons and how they affect our health and wellbeing. Spring is the time of the Wood Element. Spring's arrival bursts forth bringing renewed vitality and optimism as the Yang energy expands with green shoots and rapid growth as the Yin of winter recedes.

The potential laid in bulbs and seeds during winter is expanding from shoots, closed buds and opening up into flowers. Similarly increased Yang energy drives us to initiate new goals and projects. In spring the weather can be unpredictable seesawing from warm sunshine to cold, even snow and strong winds. So like trees it's important for us to grow deep roots and reach outward to channel this increased energy, while being flexible like bamboo bending with winds of growth.
