SPRING THE WOOD ELEMENT LIVER & GALLBLADDER
09-Sep-2019In Chinese Medicine the Liver and Gallbladder are at their peak during springtime. The Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi - or vital energy - around the body and this includes the emotions. It also maintains the body's homeostasis, stores blood, and flexibility of joints and tendons. During winter fats are stored in the body to protect against cold. In springtime, metabolism naturally increases so now is a good time to de-tox and to lose weight!
When the body-mind is stressed, in Chinese Medicine the Liver's job of maintaining the free flow of Qi & blood can become sluggish leading to stagnation and blockage. If Qi is blocked, the Liver can overact and affect the functioning of other organs resulting in symptoms such as abdominal bloating and churning, IBS, migraines, PMS, painful periods, stiff neck and shoulders and tiredness. Emotionally mood swings, irritability, increased anger, melancolia and both mind & body feeling tense and on edge are common symptons commonly treated in clinic.
